Scott Disick was born on Long Island, New York.
Courtesy of Disick’s relationship with Kardashian sister Kourtney, his private life is broadcast to the world through the Kardashian reality television industry. And so we know that he was a lapsed Jew who attempted in one episode to reconnect with his roots. He went to temple for the first time in a long time, about which he said:
I feel a little uncomfortable. I don’t speak Hebrew; I can’t read Hebrew; I don’t really even know what prayer we’re on. But, being in temple feels great, it really does. . . . Maybe I’m gonna start going to temple more.1
I couldn’t find any proof that he actually did start going to temple more, but he tried at least once to have a Shabbat dinner with the family amid a stream of criticism from Kourtney. She questioned his Jewishness and made fun of his lack of knowledge about the Jewish tradition. He said,
For Kourtney to tell me the whole Jewish thing is just another phase in my life is pretty disrespectful. It isn’t like a certain type of suit or a certain type of car I’m into.2
Except that he’s really really into suits and cars, and seems to be much more comfortable with his worldly possessions than with religion.3 His attempt to reconnect could have been brief, so I don’t know that I can call him devout, but he is definitely Jewish nonetheless.
Guns, Gays, and Gucci
Disick isn’t a very political person, but all signs point to Democrat. The only thing he had to say about the 2012 presidential election was a retweet from Wendy Williams that said,
Wouldn’t @barackobama and @MittRomney look better if they dressed like @scottdisick?4
I’m sure he would think so. But okay, it’s not a political position so much as a comment on his fashion ego. But after the Newtown, Connecticut shooting a few weeks after the election, he sent out a few tweets advocating for stricter gun control measure including:
AMEN RT”@Tony_Binks: @Amit_Bhatia99 Right to life for children makes any “right to bear arms” rhetoric nothing more than nonsense.”5
He also criticized Khloe Kardashian for using what he called a homophobic slur against him for his choice of handbag. After she called him a “homo” on a radio show for carrying a bag he said,
Listen to me. First of all, you shouldn’t say homo on the radio. It’s not a bad thing to be a homosexual. You’re making it sound like a negative thing. Third I’m not a homosexual. Fourth, I didn’t come out of the closet. It’s a man bag.6
That might not be an endorsement of gay marriage, but he showed some sensitivity to the gay community. Also, it all seems to come back to fashion with Disick, doesn’t it?
In the end, he doesn’t seem to be too political, but he most likely leans liberal. After all, he is a Hollywood Jew.
