In an interview with The Straits Times, when asked if he believes in existance after death

I do not. [...] I mean, I’m a pedestrian. I believe in where we are right now - just. [...] There are all kinds of angles, right? Is there a god? I don’t know? Have you seen him? I haven’t seen him. [...] I don’t look negatively upon organized religion or anything - people believe whatever they want and I think that’s wonderful. […] When they were little and asked me, ‘What is God?’, I told them to look at the grass, take a deep breath, look up at the sky and clouds, and that all that was god. And to look in the mirror and that was god too. And I don’t think that’s very far off the mark.

In an interview on Larry King Live, when asked about his faith

I have faith in my kids. And I have faith that as long as you keep moving forward, just keep walking forward, things will be all right, I suppose, you know. Faith in terms of religion, I don’t. Religion is not my specialty

According to Express

We would just go out and line up a bunch of cans and shoot with rifles, handguns and, at times, submachine guns. … When I was a kid it was a controlled atmosphere, we weren’t shooting at humans … we were shooting at cans and bottles mostly. I will most certainly take my kids out for target practice.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, in reference to a previous statement comparing American people to puppy dogs

I would never insult the American people, I used the metaphor of a puppy dog, but I never said ignorant puppy dog. I said it’s a very young country compared to old Europe, or Asia. […] It was misinterpreted. I was talking about the government, and especially the current administration. Never about the troops, even if I was not particularly enthusiastic about going to Iraq or whatever. I love my country. But f**k, if I want to say that I don’t agree with the president’s choices or words or intentions, so what? Even if I had said what they printed—which I didn’t—what’s the big deal? Some actor blurts out this thing—who gives a s**t?

To highlight the illegal plunder of our oceans by pirate fishing vessels, in a statement for the EJF

Our seas and the people that depend upon them are facing a critical threat. Pirate fishing operations are plundering fish stocks the world over, which in turn undermine all attempts at their sustainable management, already under pressure from widespread misdirection. The devastating impact of this illegal form of fishing is felt not only by our marine ecosystems, but also by the millions of people living in some of the world’s poorest countries who rely on healthy fish stocks as an essential source of both food and employment. Just so you know, this is not a problem without cure, but we have to act now if we are to protect our marine-life’s biodiversity and food security for future generations. It is more important than you, or any of us, can at this moment even begin to understand. That is why I support the work of the Environmental Justice Foundation to raise awareness and provide ‘real-world’ solutions to the issue. Their efforts to engage in effective action to protect both people and planet will help to bring an end to pirate fishing, once and for all

In an interview with the German magazine Stern

America is dumb, it’s like a dumb puppy that has big teeth that can bite and hurt you, aggressive. […] My daughter is four, my boy is one. I’d like them to see America as a toy, a broken toy. Investigate it a little, check it out, get this feeling and then get out. […] I was ecstatic they re-named ‘French Fries’ as ‘Freedom Fries, Grown men and women in positions of power in the U.S. government showing themselves as idiots.
