Government must ensure equality before the law. It can’t create a world in which “everybody has an even shot.” No government or human being is capable of creating such a world, and attempting to do so actually means ensuring inequality before the law.

With respect to Trump, the Republicans in Congress I respect least are those who privately despised the man while publicly championing him. Worse yet are those who waited until after he lost to denounce him, thinking (even if mistakenly) they could have their cake and eat it too.

Michigan abolished capital punishment in 1846. The U.S. government has had a moratorium on this horrendous practice since 2003. Now, President Trump and AG Barr want to resume executions. This week, I joined @RepPressley to introduce a bill to prohibit the federal death penalty.

The proper function of government is to protect individual rights--life, liberty, and property. I believe that life begins at conception, and it is unconscionable that government would sanction the taking of the helpless and innocent. I will always vote against government funding of abortion and will fight to protect life at all stages. I am proud to be the only Third Congressional District candidate to have earned the endorsement of Right to Life of Michigan PAC.
