In an interview with GQ

The whole landscape is very hypermasculine. [...] I do feel like this newer generation of rappers who are coming in, and the ones who are here, are going to have to reshape their thoughts. Because change is happening. There's going to be so many gay rappers. There's going to be more trans people in the industry and whatnot. Ten years from now, everything that I'm doing won't even seem like it was shocking. [...] I definitely feel like I am [part of the gay agenda] now. But of my own will. [...] It's just acceptance of gay people. And they see that as a bad thing: Like, they're trying to normalize it. You know what? Yeah. That's actually what I'm trying to do.

In a tweet, in response to someone mentioning gay artists who did not display their sexuality as Lil Nas X does

many, if not all, of these artists had to hide their sexuality for majority of their career. you seem to only respect gay artists when the gay part is tucked away. you don’t like me because i embrace my sexuality instead of hiding it and never speaking on it for your comfort.

y’all be silent as hell when niggas dedicate their entire music catalogue to rapping about sleeping with multiple women. but when i do anything remotely sexual i’m “being sexually irresponsible” & “causing more men to die from aids” y’all hate gay ppl and don’t hide it.

In an interview with Time Magazine

I grew up in a pretty religious kind of home—and for me, it was fear-based very much. Even as a little child, I was really scared of every single mistake I may or may not have made. I want kids growing up feeling these feelings, knowing they’re a part of the LGBTQ community, to feel like they’re O.K. and they don’t have to hate themselves.

I definitely want to be more involved for the simple fact that I now have a platform and I can really have influence over what people see and hear and think about everything that’s going on.
