Michelle Obama was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois.

Obama grew up going to a Methodist church in her neighborhood.<a class="source-citation" href="#http%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonpost.com%2Fwp-dyn%2Fcontent%2Farticle%2F2009%2F01%2F31%2FAR2009013101876.html%3Fsid%3DST2009013102074" title="From the Second City, An Extended Interview">[1]</a> It is unclear if and to what denomination Michelle adhered between her childhood and her marriage to Barack Obama but while her husband was doing community organizing in Chicago, the family paid lip service to the Trinity United Church of Christ. However, their former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, once told an inquirer:

For example, Michelle once said to a gathering of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Tennessee, hoping to rally supporters to her husband's re-election campaign:

## A political trap

Michelle Obama's politics are likely, by default, the politics of her husband. If she did disagree with him, she wouldn't say so in public–and understandably so.
