Wiki

Tobias "Tobey" Maguire was born in Santa Monica, California. He grew up moving frequently between California, Oregon, and Washington.

Maguire doesn't talk about religion at all, so the only conclusion I can come to is that he's totally non-religious. It could have been because he had a relatively unstable early life: his parents had him when they were quite young and divorced early, he never spent too much time in one place, and then he dropped out of high school during his freshman year.[1] But who's to say, really.

The closest Maguire comes to spirituality, as far as I could tell, is that he practices yoga, which can sometimes have an element of meditation.[2] But that's a stretch, and I know it.

Spidey Politics

Politically, Maguire not ambiguous in the least: he is definitely a Democrat. Between 2007 and 2012, the actor donated $80,432 to Democratic candidates and organization, which includes over $30,000 to the Democratic National Committee during the 2012 presidential election.[3] If you include his wife's donations during that period, the figure is well over $100,000.[4] He also attended a fundraiser at George Clooney's house in 2012 which cost $40,000 per ticket,[5] and he even played basketball with the president the next day.[6]

He doesn't appear to be interested in talking about politics all that much, but nonetheless he's shown support for a few other liberal causes. He tweeted his support of gay marriage,[7] and he's very concerned with animal rights issues. Maguire was a long-time vegetarian and more recently became a vegan. He said about his decision not to eat any animal products:

It's never really been that hard for me. I've never had any desire to eat meat. In fact, when I was a kid I would have a really difficult time eating meat at all. . . . I don't judge people who eat meat–that's not for me to say–but the whole thing just sort of bums me out.[8]

He also reportedly refuses to drive a vehicle with leather seats, was named one of PETA's sexiest vegetarians,[9] and has expressed support for other animal rights causes.[10] Sounds like a legitimate Hollywood liberal to me.
