Will Ferrell was born and raised in Irvine, California.

There is no indication of Ferrell's religious upbringing, if there was one, and the only hard evidence of his current sentiments toward religion are on his MySpace page, where he calls himself an atheist.<a class="source-citation" href="#http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myspace.com%2Fwill_ferrell" title="Will Ferrell on MySpace">[1]</a>

It comes as no surprise though. Much of Ferrell's comedy revolves around skewering religion and religious people. Whether it makes fun of the rapture-happy, apocalypse-prophesying fundamentalist Christians of America<a class="source-citation" href="#http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dp9vTbvwoh34%26feature%3Drelated" title="Will Ferrell May 21 2011 Apocalypse">[2]</a> or satirizing those who claim to have seen God,<a class="source-citation" href="#http%3A%2F%2Fmovieline.com%2F2011%2F06%2F29%2Fwill-ferrell-and-adam-mckay-sign-onto-semi-religious-screen-project-swear-to-god%2F" title="Will Ferrell Attached to Semi-Religious Comedy Swear To God">[3]</a> Ferrell is pretty good at making fun.

Perhaps his best role in this capacity was in the film Talladega Nights, where he plays a NASCAR racer who prefers to pray to baby Jesus instead of dead-on-the cross Jesus. Of course, the film and his portrayal ruffled some religious feathers, with one critic saying:

## Politics of snubbery

First of all, Ferrell is a Democrat. He made one political contribution in 2003 to Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean.<a class="source-citation" href="#http%3A%2F%2Fwww.newsmeat.com%2Fcelebrity_political_donations%2FWill_Ferrell.php" title="Will Ferrell&apos;s Federal Campaign Contribution Report">[5]</a>

But more to the point, he loves trashing Republicans. His Saturday Night Live rendition of George W. Bush was a major hit, presumably for painting the president as a clueless, bumbling buffoon. But it wasn't just comedy for Ferrell. He snubbed invitations to the White House during the Bush years, saying:

>I had a couple of opportunities to go and meet [President Bush], and I declined, partly out of comedic purposes, because when I was on the show at the time, it didn't make sense to really meet the people that you play, for fear of them influencing you.
