The reason you think history is white is because you’ve been lied to. It’s not that we’re being politically correct. It’s that we’ve been, very deliberately, politically incorrect.

As Black people, we’re very used to empathizing with the world through white people’s eyes, because they’re the protagonists. I know what it’s like to look at the world and empathize with Superman because I spent my whole life doing that, What’s revolutionary, in its own way, is getting folks to see the world through my eyes, because then they are in my skin and looking at the world through me.

When found out that his appointment was vetoed by Geoff Johns, because Superman “could not have a black grandfather”

Hearing about these conversations hurts no less now than it did back then. The clarifications almost hurt more tbh. Still just doing my thing. Still we do the work. We still fly.

People of colour aren’t a modern phenomenon – we’ve existed in the past, we exist in the present, we will exist in the future. I think it’s the simplest thing in the world to include people. If you’re not creative enough to figure out how to do that you shouldn’t be in a creative industry.

What happens in culture often is, you go back in time and only white folks are happy, And you know what? We’ve all known how to smile since the beginning of time. We’ve all gotten married since the beginning of time. We’ve all had romance, glamour, and splendor. Representing that is incredibly important, because period drama for people who aren’t white shouldn’t mean only spotlighting trauma.

The color of your skin should not affect the quality of the medical treatment you receive. Racial bias in the medical system must end now. I’m shining a light on this issue all season long, starting with today’s powerful episode.

In an interview in Los Angeles Times, when asked if he saw black voices being accepted more in country music

I do see it getting better. It’s a delicate conversation, and do I think we may take a little longer in country to have it? Probably. But it’s the conversation we’re having more and more.

When white people make up the majority of decision making power people of colour are the ones that aren’t given a fair shot at life. Racism is built into every level of our society. Now it’s time for EVERYONE to use their voice to shout about it and expose it for what it is and it is evident in all of these ways: Wealth Employment Education Criminal justice Housing Surveillance Healthcare Systematic racism is REAL. Please I’m asking everyone that follows me, do your research, educate yourself and keep the conversation going. We ALL need to fight to end it :black_heart:

My privilege allowed me to not have to learn about white privilege. I didn’t know about it as a kid, and that is privilege itself, you know? And that’s something that I’m still trying to educate myself on every day. How can I see where people are coming from, and understand the pain that comes with the history of our world?

70% of what I shoot is interracial and 80% of what I direct and produce is interracial. I do it because I wanna give as much work and keep the money flowing in that business and keep it afloat so one day I can have more of it relate to my own. When I had my agency, I represented every black male performer because no one else represented black male performers. Are you kidding me?

React how you want. Any energy is good energy. The Confederate flag represented slavery in a way. That’s my abstract take on what I know about it, right? So I wrote the song “New Slaves.” So I took the Confederate flag and made it my flag. It’s my flag now. Now what are you going to do?
