Ban all assault weapons! This is not a liberal or conservative issue… it is a human issue. The assault weapon’s only purpose is to kill as many human beings possible in the least amount time. We have to ask ourselves, when is it going to be enough? Until then, we have to be honest and admit that we live in a violent country… just writing that breaks my heart. Our children deserve #MoreThanThoughtsAndPrayers from leaders elected to protect them from gun violence. Join the movement to #EndGunViolence Text ACT to 644-33.

Social emotional learning is a cause that is close to my heart. Now, more than ever, our students need to learn these skills in school. Today, on the 3rd annual SEL day, I am pleased to share that it has been endorsed by @POTUS and @GavinNewsom. Keep up the good work @SEL4CA.

Today, on his birthday, I’m wondering what Martin Luther King would think about our society’s progress with civil rights… I’m sensing he’d wear a grimace. Not a very happy birthday. The current drive by legislators in several states to restrict voting isn’t even subtle racism - it’s blatant. It reminded me of a quote by President Lyndon Johnson, that I learned when preparing to portray him in a Broadway play. LBJ was the architect of the voting rights act of 1965 that made it easier - not harder for all people to vote… and isn’t that what democracy means, encouraging all citizens to participate in their government? […] We’ve got a long way to go, but Dr. King was not one to give up, and neither should we. Have a nice day. Be kind. Stay well. BC #PassVotingRightsNow #MLK #MLKDAY

We live in this cancel culture of people erring and doing wrong – either on purpose or by accident – and there’s less forgiveness in our world. I think we’re unfortunately in a coarser environment. I think our societies have become harder and less understanding, less tolerant, less forgiving.

Hey everyone. I got a passionate reaction to my encouragement to get out and vote in this election. Some of you assumed that I was soliciting for one candidate over another. I’m not. Truly. We don’t have to always agree - or even say who we’re voting for. The only really important thing is that we vote. It’s the most effective way to be heard. Let your voice ring out and vote for whomever you choose. Thanks for listening. BC #novotenovoice #election2020 #vote #registertovote #usa

I make a good living using my imagination. But I can’t possibly imagine, with any real honesty, what it must be like for a black person living in America. Not just now, but throughout our country’s bruised history with racism. It’s not enough for white people to feel compassion for those who are mistreated. Outrage is needed. A demand for fundamental, systemic change is necessary. Not next year or next month, but NOW. My heart hurts by the bleeding of our collective souls, and I believe that is what happens when we abuse a person because of their beliefs or skin color. Martin Luther King said: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Bleeding can stop. Bruising does heal. It’ll take a tremendous, arduous, peaceful movement to make it happen - but it’ll be worth it. #blackoutuesday

I've stopped worrying about the president's sanity. He's not sane. And the realization of his illness doesn't fill me with anger, but with profound sadness. What I now worry about is the sanity of anyone who can still support this deeply troubled man to lead our country.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter
Since the discovery and acceptance of DNA technology in criminal prosecution, several prisoners — each and every year — on death row have been scientifically proven to be innocent and given their freedom. Proposition 62 would eliminate the horror of mistakenly putting an innocent person to death. Prop 62 would make the severest penalty for those found guilty to be life in prison without the possibility of parole. Furthermore, Prop 62 has a provision that makes prisoners pay restitution to their victims. And finally, Prop 62 would save the state of California millions of dollars each year! That’s right. Voting Yes on 62 would save taxpayers millions!
